These 9 lines of VBSCript code access the OLE DB Service Provider Type Library that is installed with ADO and will build a connection string to ANY database supported by OLE DB. Simply launch the VBScript file enclosed in the attached ZIP file, on the first tab select your Provider (Access, Oracle, SQL Server, etc), Click Next and enter your connection info (login, password, server name, etc), click Test Connection to test connection and when ready, click OK. When OK is clicked it will popup a VB InputBox that has your connection string as the default value in the text box. Simply copy the string and click Cancel to end the script. This code takes a user specified Access Database (I used Access 2000) and prints the database structure to a printer or to an HTML file. Currently working on adding Queries, etc. to the mix as well (Version 2.0!!) if i get any feedback.

Address Book XP is a contact management and address book organiser. This program currently supports user logins, reminders and some advanced uses of Access XP and 2000. This code was designed for Windows XP with Office XP or 2000. It hasn't been tested on other machines yet but hopefully you guys and girls will be able to help with that. There is a lot of work that needs to be done with this code such as a suitable search engine and some user managemet. Ever be in the middle of coding and forget the field names in your database? Well this little tool is for you. Open an Access Database and it will display all of your fields as well as the description and ALL of the properties for each field. You can Drag field names right from the list into your code. Never have to memorize (or type) those long field names again. Click the stay in front button and the application will stay on top, click it again and it will fall behind other windows when it loses focus. You can also search for a field name. This video rental program with printing capabilities and Flexgrid to Excel feature is usefull for stand-alone PC. This is my first database programming experience in visual basic 6.0 Service Pack 5. So please bear with my coding techniques. Here you will learn how to use ADO and DAO to access a Password Protected database and how to use SQL techniques. I recently developed a database application and wanted to use only ADO and no DAO. I soon found out that compacting the Jet database was impossible using ADO (until 2.1+ came along that is). This code requires a reference to Microsoft Jet and Replication objects 2.1+ Library (which comes with ADO 2.1+). You can download this update from http://www.microsoft.com/data.

I started this application in order to gather somewhere all the code I receive every day from Planet Source Code (actually I gather the URL’s). There are a lot of improvements in this version, plus some bug fixes. Some of these are: importing PSC e-mails directly from the net, importing PSC e-mails from Outlook, better error handling and trace routines. Check out readme.htm for more details. The database now contains e-mails from Dec 14 1999 until Jun 19 2000. I have change (again) the database, so be careful.

This code will demonstrate opening, reading, editing, moving within, adding and deleting records within an Microsoft Access database.

This sample project enumerate all active SQL servers in LAN using ODBC function SQLBrowseConnect. This method is working both for NT and 9x based OSes. The behaviour of this ODBC function is changed in MDAC 2.6 to include all SQL Server instances found on each machine. In MDAC prios 2.6 it's enumerating servers listening on named pipes while after this release its using NetBIOS broadcasts over TCP/IP to receive response from the active servers. The code is compactly written in decoupled module and a form. The module is easy to be recycled in projects of yours and the form can be studied as a sample GUI to it. Enjoy!

The reason of doing is because I need to install my application together with database (schema & lookup data) at the client site. Of course we can do this using different approach like BACKUP/RESTORE, or MS Access upsizing. In my case, I need to script all the schema and the lookup data to have a better control to the setup file. Allows an interface to generic CSV files. It will allow you to load the file into memory, alter field values by defined name, the fields stored, rename fields in the header line,... with relative ease! HEAVILY commented -- good for learning from. This is was incorporated into an application that shared its information with perl scripts. This was updated on 12/3/02 for bug fixes (sorry if you already downloaded it).

Read from and write to a database on a web site via simple ASP pages from within a VB program, if you do not count DIM statements then this is all done with just 4 lines of VB code (+ 25 or so in the ASP scripts). Populating a standard combo box with data from a recordset of 15,000 records or more seems to take forever. I used API calls instead of the AddItem method and my test results shows my function is at least 3 times faster than the AddItem Method. This download does not come with a database file, so if you'd like to test it then provide your own db. Please post the number of records in your ADODB recordset object, the time it takes to populate the combo box with the Additem method (just uncomment a line in my test project, it comes with a timer), and the time it takes using my RecsetToCombo function which is made up of a couple of API calls.
